Jessica Gomez Named To State Healthcare Committee

Jessica Gomez was recently selected by Governor Kate Brown to serve on a new committee created to control the cost of healthcare for Oregonians. The citizen- and stakeholder-led committee was established by Senate Bill 889 and passed during the 2019 legislative session.

Healthcare is an important topic for Jessica — and one that she passionately pursues — because it affects her as a wife, mother, and business owner. Having experienced a turbulent childhood, Jessica is dedicated to helping Oregon families have more options for their healthcare.

As CEO and founder of Rogue Valley Microdevices, Jessica made a commitment years ago to pay for her employees’ insurance premiums because good healthcare is directly tied to quality of life.

While making a difference on healthcare one company at a time is a good start, Jessica would like to help address some of the issues that are causing our healthcare systems to falter. Rising costs are an issue for healthcare consumers — including entrepreneurs, large companies, and “mom and pop” shops — as well as the employees who work at these companies and their families. How can we help people who are struggling to work within the system to find ways to ensure that they and their families have sufficient coverage?

The Governor’s new healthcare committee is gearing up to address the most pressing issues, including finding a solution (or solutions) that may allow everyone to receive quality care at a “reasonable price.” Even defining what is reasonable is a challenging task for the committee, but it’s a challenge that Jessica enthusiastically embraces.

Jessica believes that basic and preventative healthcare should be universally accessible and affordable because it falls into a high-volume, low-risk category. The issues with the current healthcare system affect everyone. Now is the time to work on solutions that can help those who have been hit hard by rising premiums and increasing healthcare costs.
